My Story
I’m a British Sudanese textile artist, currently based in London. I design playful statement prints that visualise the second-generation immigrant experience and everyday multicultural life. I’m also a graduate from Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, where I was supported by the Sir Frank Bowling scholarship.
Rather than representing Sudan in a traditional sense, my work explores what it means to grow up between cultures. My prints often consist of nostalgic shapes and textures, combined with features that contradict them. This is my way of depicting the fluid nature of living in the diaspora.
Having lived in vastly contrasting environments within the UK, Wembley which is a diverse part of London, and Newcastle-under-Lyme, a predominantly-white market town in Staffordshire, I’ve become increasingly drawn to creating work that is centred around cultural representation.
Working across collage, drawing, photography, and printing, my artwork aims to start conversations and encourage people of all backgrounds to celebrate difference.
If you’re an artist, designer, or organisation with a meaningful story to tell, I would love to work with you. You can contact me through my email below.
